Declutter | A Conversation With Angelica

Foreword Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. The next short story in the Declutter collection is here! As a reminder, since it's been a hot minute since I've been able to post anything to this blog, Declutter is my short story collection that I am releasing for free on Patchwork and then later on through Amazon's self-publishing.  The following is a much more... personal story. Most of my short stories are ideas that I have either from day dreaming or night dreaming. This one is inspired by my own struggles with depression and anxiety but eventually changed into a simple conversation between myself and a character - something my lady love does to help herself work through some of her own struggles. It was something I have never tried to do and figured why not give it a shot. The following is that experiment.  A Conversation With Angelica The cold metal of my apartment's front door felt comforting against my forehead. I let my skin remain against the portal to my personal space for...

I Have Anger, I Have Hate... I Will Use Them (Obi-Wan Finale Rant)

Hello there! SPOILERS AHEAD.  I didn't want to write this rant but there is so much anger circulating my brain that the only healthy way to dispose of that emotion is to channel it into something productive.  Let me start of by saying that I wanted to like this series. When the rumors of an Obi-Wan Kenobi show / movie started doing the rounds, I was kinda hyped for it. I was curious to see what they could do with this beloved character. Apparently all they could do was make a show filled with logical fallacies and complete disregard for character motivation just to show off some cool images and set pieces.  Before I get too far into the rant, I wanna apologize if any of this seems a tad disjointed or unorganized. I'm literally writing this just after watching the final episode and I'm allowing the words just to flow forth from me.  Another thing I want to mention before I tear this finale apart worse than Darth Vader tore that ship apart, I do not blame a...

Declutter | Escape Artist

Foreword The seventh short shorty for Declutter has arrived! This particular one is an idea that's been floating around my head for quite sometime. Ever since I connected with my online community and was discovering all the different forms of artistic expression we had, I day dreamed about the idea of a group of friends traveling cross country to finally meet and how each one view the world through a slightly different artistic lens. Escape Artist is not that particular story, but the main core idea transformed into what I present to you below. It's also partially a true story, based on how I survived some of the rougher parts of public school by hiding inside the fantastical world of books, video games and anime. Art can be a healthy escape from daily turmoil that we all experience. Emphasis on can, since escape is no substitute for actually addressing the issues that plague society. The importance of art is something I will defend, because that escape enables us the abilit...

Declutter | Light Bulb Inc: Initialization

Foreword Hello! It's another short story for the collection, Declutter! Light Bulb Inc. - as I have explained numerous times on the blog here - was the club that my cousin, my brother and myself created when we were all small children. Originally directionless, my brother and myself decided that LBI should be a kind of online gaming police force. We would be a gamer's best defense against cheaters and hackers and, to immortalize our little club forever, I decided to create a short story based on those adventures. I did initially write this from the point of view of a little kid explaining what happened in a video game to his parent. Hopefully I capture some of the childhood innocence or, at the very least, made a fun read! Light Bulb Inc: Initialization I proceeded to check my loadout for a third time. I knew everything was in place but my nerves compelled me to check anyways. Dragon Skin battle armor? Check. M1 rifle, fully loaded? Check. Revolver loaded with six rounds? Che...

Read All About Ed: Ed, Edd, n' Eddy Episode Nine Review

Foreword Ed, Edd N Eddy for the longest time has been my favorite cartoon. Recently, HBOMax has picked up several cartoons from the late 90s and early 2000s. Unsurprisingly, I went on an immediate nostalgia bender and watched the entire series with my lady love. And what better way to celebrate several of my favorite cartoons than by systematically reviewing each episode, starting with the dorks of Peach Creek. For all of my new readers – Hey, welcome to Patchwork! - Each episode will be reviewed on a 10 point rating scale. I'll be focusing on four aspects of the show and pulling the average to get a final tally. The four categories we'll be measuring are: The Story – The Plot of the episode, as well as the characters themselves. The Visuals – Whether they be character, backgrounds or accessories. The Comedy  - This is a “haha” funny show, so it needs decent comedy. The Scam – The Ploy the Eds concoct to weasel the allowances of the other kids. With the formalities out of t...
